DESCRIPTION:Continuing the discussion with Dr Bill Metcalf\, Ian Higginbottom and Ilan Arnon. \nDr Bill Metcalf BSAg\, M.A.\, PhD  is a world leader in researching intentional communities of all sorts\, contemporary and historical and is an experienced social history researcher. He has published seven books\, in Australia\, USA\, Germany and UK\, in this area.  The Findhorn Book of Community Living\, Herrnhut: Australia’s First Utopian Commune\, Gayndah Communes\, Evolution of Environmental Sciences\,  Shared Visions\, Shared Lives: Communal Living Around the Globe\, From Utopian Dreaming to Communal Reality: Cooperative Lifestyles in Australia. \nIan Higginbottom is a co-founder of Australia’s first “cohouse”\, Cascade Cohousing\, which successfully combines private homes and extensive common facilities to provide a strong sense of community for residents of all ages. Cascade Cohousing was instigated by Ian after touring similar developments in Denmark and the USA. Ian and other residents adapted the cohousing model to Australia\, successfully built 14 homes and a common house and after 18 years have a thriving residential community. \nIlan Arnon is establishing a cohousing/ecovillage\, the Tasman Ecovillage\, on the Tasman Peninsula. Ilan lived on a kibbutz in Israel prior to 3 years national service and has lived in Australia since 1983. He has an extensive background in hospitality and property development.  Ilan has lived on the 23 acre site since 2007 and has been recycling a 1970s motel into cohousing as well as obtaining the necessary council permits for 65 home sites of the ecovillage. The Tasman Ecovillage aims to provide affordable housing with extensive food production areas.
